Crosby watch. Tiger's troubles. LeBron's decisive power hour. Every sport appears to have that one guy: the media darling; the next, next one; the guy who seems like the only one keeping the sport above water.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders got back to work from the bye week with a Sunday practice at Mosaic Stadium and a new head coach at the helm.

We're passed Labour Day and the signs point to that special time. The combines are rolling, the leaves are starting to turn and the annual 'Rider-Bomber Labour Day Classic is in the books.

From Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole to the bigwigs at head office, TSN left the Energy City on Thursday thoroughly impressed. Onrait and O'Toole gushed about Estevan's hospitality, ranging from places they visited to get footage to their meals.

The Editor: There have been many times during my membership on city council that I have been proud of the citizens of Estevan and area.

From what I understand, the final farewell for Jack Layton was neat. The man was sent off in style in Toronto with masses lined up on the streets for the send-off that included celebration, music and fitting words from those who knew him best.

One of the more intriguing mysteries about the late Jack Layton's career is why he didn't do better here. After all, when Jack Layton started out as federal NDP leader, all he and his party had going for it was Saskatchewan.

As students head back to classrooms and the rest of us prepare to greet autumn by doing the things we do to gird ourselves for winter, our thoughts also turn to the reality of a provincial general election.
