Heavy rain, thunderstorms expected in southeast Saskatchewan

A spring rainstorm is expected to bring 50 to 80 mm of rain and possible thunderstorms to southeast Saskatchewan through Friday.

ESTEVAN — Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning at about 3:50 p.m. on May 14 for parts of southern Saskatchewan, with 50 to 80 millimetres of rain expected by Friday afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says a spring storm system will begin affecting the region Wednesday evening, bringing showers and thunderstorms. Periods of heavy rain and isolated thunder are expected to persist intermittently over the next two days.

The heaviest rainfall is likely to occur near the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border.

Environment Canada is advising residents to monitor weather alerts and forecasts, and to be prepared for possible localized flooding in low-lying areas. People are encouraged to report severe weather by emailing [email protected], calling 1-800-239-0484, or using the hashtag #SKStorm on X (formerly Twitter).
