ESTEVAN — The annual Radiothon for Life for the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation had its best year yet.
The 12-hour fundraiser, held May 21 at the St. Joseph's Hospital, brought in $252,044 for the campaign to bring MRI services to Estevan. The total included a $100,000 contribution from Del Wanner, which came in late in the day, and $50,000 from Whitecap Resources, which was announced before the Radiothon.
The event also had lots of donations and other support that came in throughout the day. Volunteers helped out during the fundraiser.
The Radiothon for Life began at 7 a.m. and continued until 7 p.m. The event took place inside the hospital and aired on Golden West Broadcasting's three Estevan radio stations: CJ 1150, Sun 102.3 and Country 106. People donated online, by phone or by dropping by the hospital.
As of May 20, the total for the MRI campaign, Together We Can - MRI for Estevan, stood at $5,414,689, which was 83 per cent of the fundraising goal of $6.5 million. The total includes the $2 million from Elaine Walkom in memory of her late husband Grant, which kick-started the campaign.
Last year the Radiothon raised $185,683.
