ESTEVAN — The St. Joseph's Health Care Auxiliary needed roughly a year to pay off its $100,000 commitment to bring an MRI scanner to St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan.

Representatives of the auxiliary presented a cheque for $20,000 to hospital executive director Candace Kopec and hospital foundation executive director Lori Gervais during the auxiliary's annual spring tea, bake sale and raffle May 7.

The auxiliary announced its commitment to the MRI project in the spring of 2024. It was able to pay off the $100,000 thanks to estate donations, including Tom and Irma Trofimenkoff, as well as other contributions from the community. The auxiliary also receives allocations as a member agency for the United Way Estevan; enjoys support for its tea, bake sales and raffles in the spring and before Christmas, and operates the hospital's gift shop.

The auxiliary has yet to decide on its next project to support the hospital.
