KINDERSLEY — The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is warning the public of potential measles exposure in Kindersley following confirmation of measles cases linked to two local locations earlier this month.

The SHA advises anyone who visited the following sites during the listed times to monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days after possible exposure:

  • Cameron’s Clothing Company (705 11 Ave E)
    • Monday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Tuesday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Wednesday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Friday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Kindersley Regional Park & Golf Course Pro Shop (1 Ditson Dr)
    • Wednesday, May 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Individuals who are unvaccinated, unsure of their vaccination status, or experiencing symptoms should call HealthLine 811 for guidance and not visit a clinic in person.

Measles symptoms typically include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, fatigue, irritability, small white spots inside the mouth and throat, and a red blotchy rash that begins on the face and spreads. The rash usually appears three to seven days after symptoms begin.

Preventative treatment may be available for up to six days following exposure. If you are experiencing symptoms, do not go to an emergency room without calling ahead to ensure precautions can be taken.

Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours. The virus is transmissible from four days before the rash appears until four days after.

Vaccination is the best protection against measles. The vaccine is safe, free and nearly 100 per cent effective after two doses. Residents are encouraged to review their immunization records through MySaskHealthRecord or speak with their health provider to ensure vaccinations are up to date.
