Three structure fires part of calls received in June for AFD

July is the peak month for grill fires which is why Assiniboia Fire Department reminds residents about summer grilling safety

ASSINIBOIA — Assiniboia’s fire chief, Terry Lacelle, says their team responded to 10 calls in the month of June, with four of those 小蓝视频 false alarms.

The other calls included three structure fires, two STARS landings and one service call.

Members continue to train to be as prepared as possible when the alarm bell rings.

Lacelle said, “June training focused on live fire interior firefighting along with search and rescue and fire truck pump operations. The team also reviewed and trained on hydrant hook-up and water flow.”

AFD reminds residents of summer grilling safety

The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute says, “When using your barbecue, declare a three-foot ‘kid-free zone’ around the barbecue. Teach children that the barbecue can be hot and is not safe to touch. Never leave children unsupervised around a hot barbecue. Use barbecue lighters with child-resistant safety features, and keep lighters out of sight and reach of children."

July is the peak month for grill fires, and a significant portion of these fires start on exterior balconies or open porches. Many grill fires are caused by improper placement of the grill too close to combustible materials.

Always open the gas grill lid before lighting.

Never use grills indoors, in garages or in enclosed spaces due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and fire hazards.

It is wise to have a fire extinguisher nearby as a safety precaution.
