WEYBURN – A tense situation unfolded in Weyburn on Wednesday afternoon after police received a call from a man making serious threats, prompting an emergency response.

Weyburn Police Service say that officers immediately became concerned for the safety of both the public and the individual involved and mobilized units from both the Weyburn and Esteven Police Service.

“The collaborative effort was aimed at ensuring public safety and resolving the situation peacefully,” said Weyburn Police Service Deputy Chief Shane St. John.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., trained crisis negotiators successfully convinced the individual to surrender peacefully to officers on the scene.

The man was taken in to custody without incident under the Mental Health Act and charged with uttering threats.

The Weyburn Police Service would like to thank the public for their cooperation in avoiding the area until the situation was resolved. They say public support played a key role in helping ensure a safe outcome for everyone involved.
