The Assiniboia Junior Rebels hockey team had a very successful fundraising month, while marking Breast Cancer Month in October. The team jerseys earned over $11,000 which will be donated to breast cancer research.
The Assiniboia Junior Rebels held a fund颅raiser and beef-on-a-bun supper at the Kin Hut on November 5 in Assiniboia. During the month of October, the Rebels wore jer颅seys with pink colouring in support of the month of breast cancer awareness.
The jerseys were auctioned off at the fundraiser with all proceeds going to breast cancer research. This is the third season that the team have worn the pink jerseys and held an auction. Junior Rebels players, coaches, management and parents as well as friends and supporters, attended the evening. The evening began with cocktails and socializing before visitors enjoyed a supper of roast beef, and numer颅ous side dishes before the live auction.
The auction began with each player com颅ing to the front and putting on the jersey that was auctioned off. Coach Brett Tiffen introduced each player, often with a humor颅ous story, and jersey sponsor. Each player鈥檚 jersey carried an individual sponsor. Many of the parents of the players bought back the jersey as a keepsake.
There were some heated bidding wars for many of the jerseys. Mason McLeod鈥檚 jersey, sponsored by Assiniboia Bakery, had the highest bid, going for $1,250. Brett Leslie of Regina, whose jersey was sponsored by Hutch Ambulance, sold for $1,000. Trey Tendler鈥檚 jersey, which was sponsored by Hutch Ambulance, reached $1,050. The team jerseys earned over $11,000.
