ESTEVAN — Brendon LaBatte became a celebrated member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders during his CFL career.
A Weyburn product, he helped the Saskatchewan Roughriders win the Grey Cup in 2013, and was named the league's top offensive lineman that same season. He was a six-time CFL all-star and a nine-time division all-star during his career with the Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
But before he became one of the best offensive linemen in the CFL, he was racing hobby stocks and stock cars, among other vehicles, at the Estevan Motor Speedway and at tracks in North Dakota. He has won several feature races during his career.
. Early in one of the qualifying heats for the stock car feature, his vehicle rolled between turns one and two, and narrowly missed several passing vehicles.

LaBatte, who drives No. 57, the same number he wore in the CFL, walked away from the incident under his own power and thanked the safety officials.
