Fire crews work to extinguish hot spots after a commercial building fire in Saskatoon鈥檚 north end.

SASKATOON — A fire broke out on the roof of a building in the 800 block of 56th Street East in the early hours on May 7. It was taken under control in the afternoon, but fire crews were expected to remain on scene well into the evening as they continued to battle remaining hot spots.

According to a release from the City of Saskatoon on May 7, the contents inside the structure were highly flammable, making the fire particularly difficult to contain. Crews have been working to suppress three key hot spots throughout the day.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and the extent of the damage has yet to be determined. However, officials said the building is expected to be a total loss.

SaskToday will provide further updates as they become available.
