REGINA — Haley Ott of Regina is one of five Saskatchewan young people 小蓝视频 honoured with the Junior citizen of the Year Award presented by Lt. Gov. Bernadette McIntyre.
Haley, 18, contributes to her school and community through volunteer work.
Haley has maintained honour roll status while serving as a member of the student representative council. She has worked with her peers to plan and execute school-wide events that build spirit and ensure every student feels valued. Through her leadership, Haley has helped create a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated, and student voices are heard.
Haley also volunteers as a tutor, providing one-on-one support to help younger students overcome challenges, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude toward learning. Haley believes that true success comes not just from individual achievements, but from helping others grow and thrive.
Haley is a participant in “That’s Possible,” an inclusive theatre program that partners student leaders with peers of varying abilities to create a collaborative performance.
Additionally, Haley volunteers at William Booth, where she serves meals and spends quality time with seniors, listening to life stories, offering companionship and brightening their days.
Living with lamellar ichthyosis, a rare, lifelong skin condition, Haley faces daily challenges in managing discomfort and irritation. Her resilience, perseverance and positive outlook have empowered her personally, and have inspired those around her to face adversity with courage and determination.
Haley is excited to continue her education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is committed to using her education and skills to give back to her community and contribute to the health care field.
This award was established 49 years ago and has been presented to over 180 Saskatchewan youth. The Junior Citizen of the Year Award is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA) in partnership with SaskPower, the Crown Investments Corporation and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
The four award winners who will each receive a $3,000 bursary from SaskPower are Coral Frenette of Shellbrook, Haley Ott of Regina, Kaylee Ross of Lloydminster, and Maia Smith of Moose Jaw.
New this year, the Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan has sponsored an additional award – the Junior Citizen of the Year STEM Award. The new award will annually recognize a Saskatchewan youth who meets all the required criteria of a Junior Citizen of the Year, plus possess an aptitude for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Annie Currie of North Battleford has been chosen to be the first recipient.
