The SHA advises anyone exposed to call HealthLine 811 if they are unvaccinated, unsure of their vaccination status, or develop symptoms.

Measles symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red eyes
  • Fatigue or irritability
  • White spots in mouth and throat
  • Red blotchy rash spreading from the face downward

Anyone potentially exposed may be eligible for preventative treatment up to six days after contact. Do not visit clinics in person if symptomatic—call HealthLine 811 for guidance.

If experiencing a medical emergency, call ahead before visiting the emergency department or inform 911 that measles exposure is suspected.

Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours. Individuals are infectious from four days before until four days after the rash appears.

Vaccination is nearly 100 per cent effective with two doses. The vaccine is safe, free and available in Saskatchewan.
