The dust hides the result from us, but Unity Cardinal Andrew Feser was tagged out at second base in the Cards’ last regular season home game, July 2. The home team went on to win the game 6-0 however.

UNITY — Finishing the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League season in first place with 13 wins and one loss, the Unity Cardinals are in a strong position going into the quarter-final playoff round.

The Cards will take on the basement-dweller Mervin Flyers, who had only one win all season, in the quarterfinals with the first home game СƵ tonight, July 10, at the Wilkie Regional Park. Game two is in Mervin July 15 and game three, if needed in the best-of-three series, will be back in Wilkie July 16.

Second-place North Battleford Beavers, 12-2, play Glaslyn Orioles, 3-11, while the Standard Hill Lakers, 8-6, will compete with the Lloydminster Twins, 5-8-1, in the playoff first round. In the middle of the pack are the Lashburn Cardinals, 7-7 and the Oil City Ducks, 6-7-1.

Individual players making the top 10 list in the batting stats were Tanner Huber with an average of .459, good for fifth place in the league, and Kaden Cey at .448 for sixth.

Cey also was in fourth place on the top 10 pitching list, with an earned run average of 3.85.

With the Cardinals’ home diamond still under reconstruction, supporting the Unity team at their home games does mean a drive to Wilkie but the players certainly would appreciate having a few fans at their games.
