MELFORT - RCMP Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory are reporting that police are investigating a reported act of vandalism.

The Melfort RCMP are investigating an incident of vandalism that occurred at Memorial Gardens in Melfort.

Just before midnight on May 14, someone removed the red dresses that were hanging in Memorial Gardens and secured by plastic zip ties. It appears that the person melted the zip ties with a lighter and removed them from the structure that they were attached to.

Many of the red dresses were recovered after they were located in a clothing donation bin not too far away from the park.

"This is a very unnecessary act of vandalism as the red dresses symbolized the hurt and pain suffered by many people in our society through the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Plan of Action. The RCMP are disappointed in this occurrence and are asking for the public's assistance in determining the identity of the person who did this," the RCMP said in the release.

If anybody has information on this, they are asked to contact the Melfort RCMP at (306) 752-6420. If you have information related to this advisory, call 310-RCMP for immediate response or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
