Fires force campgrounds to close at the Narrow Hills Provincial Park

Gem Lakes and Lost Echo campgrounds will stay closed for 2025 after wildfire damage near Narrow Hills Provincial Park, Sask Parks says.

NARROW HILLS PROVINCIAL PARK — Two campgrounds in northern Saskatchewan will remain closed for the entire 2025 season after sustaining significant damage from wildfires Sask Parks confirmed on May 13.

"Due to the wildfires near Narrow Hills Provincial Park, the Gem Lakes and Lost Echo campgrounds are officially closed for the 2025 season. The rest of the park will remain closed until May 29, which will give the park time to assess the conditions and determine if the closure should be extended," said Sask Parks in a statement. 

“As of May 15, the 25 LF Camp Fire, located north of Smeaton and Choiceland, is actively 小蓝视频 managed by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency in co-ordination with local emergency services. This situation is 小蓝视频 managed and residents are urged to remain calm, stay informed and follow all safety guidance issued by authorities,” said the Joint Venture Emergency Management team in a public statement.

Road closures are in effect on Highway 106 north of Smeaton, and the highway remains closed. Grid road access to Highway 106 from north Choiceland and Snowden is also closed as of May 15. Travel is to be avoided in these areas. 

"Emergency response efforts have Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency crews focusing on the west flank of the fire and working on fire breaks east of Highway 106," said the Joint Emergency Management Team.
