YORKTON — It was a duel celebration; a viewing of two short films celebrating the 75th anniversary of SaskAbilities, and an unofficial kick-off for this year’s Yorkton Film Festival.

Aleks Hoeber, Regional Director with SaskAbilities said the event held Wednesday came about as a co-operative effort.

“Randy Goulden (with the film festival) reached out and asked if we’d be willing to partner. We thought it would be an amazing opportunity,” she said.

Hoeber said it was also a very natural one from the SaskAbilities perspective, noting many of their clients appreciate attending film screenings held by the YFF.

“What a great way to come together and celebrate,” she said.

The event, which included live music and a hot dog lunch, also included screening two short films celebrating the 75-years of SaskAbilities in the province.

The first film focused on the history of the organization provincially; “how we came to be, our roots,” said Hoeber.

The second film focused on the local efforts of SaskAbilities in the Yorkton region.

Hoeber said regionally – an area roughly 100-plus kilometres around the city – 12 core programs are offered, and through the varied efforts of SaskAbilities “thousands” are served in various ways.

The localized film celebrates the 75th anniversary through the eyes of local clients, staff and community partners, added Hoeber, adding they tell “what impact SaskAbilities has had for them.”
