OUTLOOK - With the spring season now here and warmer temperatures beginning to permeate around the province, ferry services at water crossings that are located in a number of communities are beginning to inform people of their status.

With the number of lakes and rivers in Saskatchewan, it can bring a unique set of transportation challenges that are solved by the 12 ferries and one barge located in the province.

Ferries will typically operate from April to November each year, but such operations depend on weather, including whether the crossing may still be frozen. In addition, fluctuating water levels may also cause ferry operations and maximum weights allowed to change without notice.

At the time of this article, the following statuses were posted to the Highway Hotline website for 13 ferries in Saskatchewan.

Ferry Statuses as of Friday afternoon, May 2:

CECIL FERRY: Closed For Season
CLARKBORO FERRY: Open For Normal Operations (weight restriction 15,000 kg)
