One school rose to the top at the Basketball City Championships, held at elementary schools across the city this week.聽 The tournament hosts teams from Yorkton鈥檚 elementary schools to compete for the prize of 小蓝视频 the top basketball team in Yorkton.
On the boys鈥� side, Yorkdale school took the top prize for the fifth year in a row, beating MC Knoll 52-23.
On the girls鈥� side, the Yorkdale team has a longer streak still, winning the tournament for eight straight years. They beat St. Paul鈥檚 School in the final 37-9.
Yorkdale coach Jason Boyda said their success is all thanks to the players.
鈥淭he players put in the time, the dedication and the commitment. They work hard, and they are so coachable, and the effort that they give day in, day out. Not just in the games, but it all starts in the practices, and that鈥檚 hats off to the players... I鈥檓 just grateful to have such a great kids to work with, and supportive parents and administration as well at our school.鈥�
The school is on a basketball hot streak in the city, and Boyda is grateful that year after year, kids are enthusiastic and work hard to keep the team on top. He notes that the older kids are mentors to the younger ones, which gives them a 鈥榗ommunity of coaches鈥� beyond himself, Grant Edgar and Theresa Karol.
鈥淲e never rebuild, we just reload, because the players buy into what we鈥檙e doing because we work so hard at it.鈥�
He is also praises the other schools that participate in the tournament, saying they also have some great kids who work hard and have some great coaching.
鈥淲e鈥檙e just very fortunate that we have that little extra. We always look forward to the competition here in the city because it鈥檚 really good basketball.鈥�
