Youth arrested after Canora suspicious package incident

The suspicious package that caused caused three blocks of Canora鈥檚 downtown to be evacuated was found to have no explosive material or device.

CANORA — An arrest has been made in connection to a suspicious package that caused three blocks of Canora’s downtown to be evacuated.

A male youth was arrested on May 28, the same day the suspicious package was found, said Saskatchewan RCMP. A knife was seized during his arrest.

The youth, who cannot be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The Canora RCMP, with assistance from the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit, determined there was no explosive material or device within the package.
